Meet Adriana Schmidt
I am a Registered Psychologist with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. I first encountered the benefits of professional counselling in college after seeing a counsellor myself and through several counselling classes. The success of this experience led to a growing interest to help others in the same way. My experience working with people as a Residence Director, Teaching Assistant, Counselling Practicums and as a Registered Provisional Psychologist have only solidified this desire to continue to develop my skillset in order to provide people with therapy that will help them thrive.
My favourite way to spend time is outside with other people. I love being in the mountains; hiking, climbing or cross-country skiing. If I am at home, I enjoy playing board games, cooking and reading.

Counselling Statement
I have my Masters in Counseling Psychology and I am a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists. I am passionate about empathetically empowering clients to heal and change so that they can live their lives to the fullest.
I believe that every person is valuable and therefore treat people with respect, unconditional positive regard, and compassion. I know that everyone is capable of change but understand that it is hard and takes courage, so I am patient and encouraging throughout the counselling process.
I honor the uniqueness of each individual, couple, and family, and so collaborates with every client to develop a plan that will be effective and employ their strengths. This is possible because I use an integrative approach to counselling and draw from; Attachment theory, Emotional Focused therapy, Interpersonal neurobiology, Positive Psychology and mindfulness-based practices.
Couples/ Marriage Counselling Statement
Conflict and struggles happen any time two people are in relationship with each other. Sometimes it is difficult to navigate these conflicts by yourself. Coming to couples counselling can be a great way to learn more about yourself, your partner, develop skills to strengthen your relationship, and deal with conflict in practical ways. I use the Gottman method when counselling couples. It begins with a comprehensive assessment and then strategically addressing the most problematic areas in your relationship.
Children's Counselling Statement
It can be very overwhelming and devastating when your children are struggling. I am very passionate about helping children and parents navigate these times. When working with children, my first priority is developing a strong relationship with the child so they feel comfortable. I primarily use play, art and sand tray therapy when working with children. These activities help children process their internal experiences and challenge their perceptions of their struggles. Through therapy the child will learn how connect with their authentic self, regulate themselves, and have self-compassion.
